The Magic Flute

by Opera for the Young with Horizon & Fairview Students Under the Direction of Teacher, Jennifer Erdly

7:00 pm

Theatre, All Ages

Step into the enchanting world of Mozart’s beloved opera, The Magic Flute, with Opera for the Young. Follow Prince Tamino as he embarks on a daring quest to find the heroic Princess Pamina. The Prince is aided by the whimsical birdman Papageno and a lively chorus of students from Plymouth’s Horizon and Fairview elementary schools, under the direction of their music teacher, Jennifer Erdly. Join us at the Plymouth Arts Center, Thursday, May 15, at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for Adults (18+) and $5 for Children. Please reserve your tickets early, as seating is limited to 150.

Transformed into whimsical space creatures, the students play Sarastro and his “Alien Council of Wisdom” in a fantastical interplanetary adaptation. But beware the sinister Queen of the Night and her assistant, the Three-headed Lady, who stand in their way! Beautiful melodies and comical characters delight youngsters, while themes of resilience and forgiveness generate thoughtful discussion. Don’t miss this magical journey filled with music, laughter, and valuable life lessons! (Two daytime shows will also be presented for the students of Fairview & Horizon Schools on Friday.)

This production offers a fresh take on Mozart’s timeless fable, promising a captivating journey filled with wonder, music, and adventure that will enchant both children and parents alike. Whether you’re a long-time opera lover or a newcomer to the genre, prepare for an unforgettable evening where the beauty and drama of opera come alive.

Since 1970, Opera for the Young has introduced more than 2.5 million children to opera. OFTY strives to ignite enthusiasm for opera in young audiences, broadening access to opera for the entire community. Throughout the school year, OFTY brings live, professional opera to elementary school audiences with annual fall and spring tours. Students appear onstage in chorus and cameo roles, performing for their peers right alongside OFTY’s professional artists. All productions are fully staged, sung in English, and adapted especially for kids. Each year, OFTY reaches over 75,000 elementary school children throughout the Midwest to ignite an enthusiasm for opera.
