Observational Animal Drawing 2020

With Artist Beth Stoddard

July 18, 2020

9:30am - 12pm

One day workshops, Youth

Learn broadly applicable and transferable observational drawing skills through the means of animal drawing with live animals from the Humane Society! Using sample drawings, photos, and models, students will learn basic animal anatomy. This will be followed by time with a live animal model to implement a practical sequence for observing, recognizing, and representing on paper species-specific proportional shapes and distinguishing traits. The work of artists past and present enriches students’ own explorations. Domestic dogs will be the point of departure for studying various species. The focus is on creating numerous sketches from life, training the eye to see and the hand to draw. Students will come away from this enjoyable and unusual workshop having gained not only animal knowledge, but also a toolkit of basic drawing skills.
