Return of the Walldogs

August 25-29, 2021

Community Event, All Ages

In 2011, Plymouth was selected by the prestigious Walldogs who “Rocked the Cheese Capital” leaving behind 21 beautiful, handcrafted and professionally painted murals depicting our rich history. This was significant considering the Walldogs typically only convene at one location each year. Fast forward ten years to the “Return of the Walldogs” which will take place August 25 – 29th. Four new murals will be painted along with two existing murals being repainted onto panels. In addition to capturing local business and community history, the murals draw residents and visitors to enjoy a self-guided mural tour throughout the historic downtown. You can download or pick up a map the Plymouth Chamber created and find QR codes on each mural which provides background information.

The schedule: Wednesday: Beginning at sunset watch artists sketch mural outlines and continue to paint through Aug. 29.

Thursday: Watch artists at 6 locations throughout downtown Plymouth. 10:00 a.m. Street Art with artist Anat Ronen free for all ages sponsored by Generations. Kids Mural sponsored by the Plymouth Rotary outside Plymouth Library until 4 p.m.

Friday: Observe artists work on murals all day. Outside library beginning at 10:00 a.m. Kids Mural. Button making. Coloring. 7:30 Outdoor movie “Shrek”

Saturday: Artists continue mural work. 10:00 a.m. Dog Parade at Stayer Junior Park sponsored by Christel’s Pet Supplies. Division Street Plaza 10:00 a.m. Street Art with artist Anat Ronen free for all ages sponsored by Generations. Carnival games, face painting, button making, coloring and kids mural until 4 p.m. Food available by Downtown Arts and Merchants. Silent Auction 5:30 - 7:30 at the Plymouth Arts Center.

Sunday: Watch as the artists put finishing touches on their murals.

By contributing to the “Return of the Walldogs” you ensure the legacy of Plymouth’s rich history continues through these masterful murals. The self-guided mural tour draws visitors who generate additional business to our historic downtown by shopping and dining. The total project budget, not including event activities and entertainment, for 6 new and maintenance on 19 existing murals is $105,000. This includes artist costs (fees, travel, lodging, meals) and mural expenses such as paints, supplies, boom lifts, and frames.
