Art Talk: Lecture Series

with Guest Artists Robert & Phyllis Hoopman

Plymouth Arts Center invites you to attend a free presentation and demonstration. Learn about Robert & Phyllis Hoopman’s journey as artists and their beautiful watercolor artworks, which are on display in the current Wisconsin Watercolor Society Exhibition through October 3rd, 2025. Open to the public and admission is free. Pre-Registration by Sept.9th is required by calling the Plymouth Arts Center 920-892-8409 to reserve your spot. A complimentary snack will be served along with a Cash Bar.

  • Phyllis Hoopman: “I am a watercolorist working in the Plymouth, WI area. I studied art history while in college and graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Boston College, MA. I have studied watercolor since 2006 beginning with James Michael, Jean Crane, and regularly with Ratindra Das and Bridget Austin. While a member of the Plymouth Arts Center Gallery Committee, I coordinated numerous exhibits starting in 2006, and over the years with James Michael, Jean Crane, Bonnita Budysz for the Water’s Edge Artists, and the faculty exhibit with Ratindra Das and Robert Hoopman. My paintings have been exhibited at the Plymouth Arts Center, UW Sheboygan Campus, Lake Country Gallery, and I am in private collections in WI, AZ,CA, and in Boston, MA.”  
  • Robert Hoopman is a watercolor artist working in the Plymouth area since 2002. He studied art and architecture at Iowa State University and spent his professional career working as an architect in Boston, MA. Robert studied watercolor with James Michael, Wynn Jones, and Ratindra Das, and has been painting with Ratindra since 2006. Robert has taught watercolor with Jean Crane and Ratindra Das. He is a member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and has exhibited work in many of their shows, in various shows at the Plymouth Arts Center, and with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America in Kenosha, WI. He exhibited in a four-person show at UW Sheboygan and in an eleven-person invited show at the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, WI. Awards include Second Place and also Viewer’s Choice at Paint the Towns en Plein Air, Plymouth, and Best of Show in the Holiday Membership Exhibition, Plymouth Arts Center. He is represented by Two Fish Gallery in Elkhart Lake.

The Plymouth Arts Center invites the community to slow down and savor the moment with a brand-new monthly event, Two Albums, Two Cocktails, launching on Wednesday, February 18, from 4 to 6pm and continuing on the third Wednesday of every month. This unique listening experience pairs two iconic, classic albums with two expertly crafted cocktails, creating the perfect midweek escape. Guests are encouraged to simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the music as it was meant to be heard—without interruptions.

Friday, March 27th, 6:30 PM, Tickets $5 Students, $10 Adults. Plymouth native, Annika Nelson, a student at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, will present a special senior recital as she prepares for graduation. This performance offers the greater Plymouth community an opportunity to experience the culmination of her undergraduate studies in classical guitar prior to her official graduation recital.
