In these watercolor classes, we’ll focus on basic watercolor techniques to help you to develop your skills. Exploring Color Theory, mixing and matching, adding more techniques, learning to sketch with a brush and pencil for creating a structured foundation for a painting. Building confidence with watercolor to plan and create a painting step by step and the importance of working from light to dark. Each session will feature demonstrations and exploring a variety of techniques—from soft washes to dynamic wet-on-wet effects! As you refine your style and expand your toolkit, you’ll unlock a new world of creative possibilities as a watercolor artist. I will guide you through the process— helping you apply what you’ve learned in previous lessons, or, if you already have watercolor experience, taking your skills to the next level. If you’re ready to explore the full range of expression watercolor offers, mastering these foundational watercolor techniques is your first step. Feeling stuck in a watercolor rut or searching for fresh inspiration? Bring your ideas, sketches, and photos to class, and we’ll turn them into exciting new challenges designed to push your creativity and help you strengthen your watercolor skills, boosting your confidence as an artist!

Leave your preconceived ideas of abstract painting at home but do bring along an open mind and the willingness to experiment and have fun! Joye will demonstrate every aspect of each project, breaking it down into segments so everyone can understand what the techniques are before actually painting on your own.
